Stuff.
Our days are filled with it. Good. Exciting. Costly. Surprising. Overwhelming. Exhausting…
There’s so much stuff. Even when it’s calendared, organized and neatly packed away, it somehow manages to create chaos, multiply, and squeeze back in, whether invited or not.
How do we keep all the stuff from overtaking who we are, and more importantly – whose we are? I mean, not all the “stuff” is bad, right?
Several years ago, the Lord worked on my heart about my stuff. I knew I needed to make more time for things that were meaningful, but, let’s just say I wasn’t sure where to start. My first venture at this was trying to form a Bunco group. Now, don’t get angry. I like Bunco, but it didn’t take me long to realize, Bunco was not what the Lord had in mind.
Part of my struggle.
My calendar was packed with a lot of stuff – and just so you know, most it was pretty important! Seriously, when I looked at the dates and scribbles on my planner, I could justify pretty much every day and date; it was good, but God had better plans and He was telling me to make room.
Through prayer and listening to the Spirit’s lead, I took another shot – but this time it was a bit different. I once again invited a few friends to join me. These were new friends -ladies I needed to get to know better – we were going to get together once a month for dinner, and fellowship over Christ-centered conversation. I wasn’t even sure how I would ask these ladies, I was quite positive they would think I was weirdo, and I would consider myself lucky if one person showed up (probably because they felt sorry for me).
Fast forward to the present…
We are still making room. I get together with my mr group (making room) once a month. We meet for about 2 hours, share a simple meal, and discuss Christ-centered questions.
I try my best to keep the extra stuff to a minimum and make room for what’s truly important, the things that will carry over into eternity. Not all stuff that fills our days and packs our calendars is bad, but it is essential that our satisfaction is found in Him as He remains the priority – and each day should be a reflection of that.
